The inaugural Association of National Olympic Committees of the OECS (ANOCES) U23 3×3 Basketball Tournament concluded successfully on May 17, 2026, at the Multipurpose Sports Complex in Tortola, bringing together six nations for two days of exciting competition, regional camaraderie, and sport development.

Team St. Kitts and Nevis emerged as champions of the tournament after an impressive showing throughout the competition. Saint Vincent & the Grenadines secured second place, while host nation British Virgin Islands claimed bronze in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.

Final standings were as follows:

4. Grenada
5. Dominica
6. Saint Lucia

Adding to the excitement of the tournament, Amarlee P. Glasgow was named winner of the ANOCES U23 3×3 Basketball Tournament Shootout Competition.

In addition to the on-court competition, ANOCES and the BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) hosted specialized referees and coaching training clinics – funded by Olympic Solidarity and supported by the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC)- from May 14–16 aimed at strengthening technical capacity across the region.

The referee training programme, which trained 8 local and regional participants, was led by Puerto Rican Angel Luis Martines Báez, a FIBA Certified 3×3 Referee Instructor, while Brazilian Luca Ramirez de Carvalho, a FIBA Certified International Instructor for 3×3 Coaching, conducted coaching instruction sessions for 8 participants.

The fast-paced games were then refereed by the clinic participants and FIBA certified referees Jorge Garcia and Sonia Maldonado.

In attendance at the tournament were Mr. Dennis Knight, Panam Sports Board member and President of St Kitts & Nevis Olympic Committee, Mr. Glenville Jeffers, ANOCES Treasurer and Secretary General St Kitts & Nevis Olympic Committee, Mr. Cliff Williams, ANOCES Board member and Secretary General, Antigua & Barbuda Olympic Committee, Ms Velica Augustin, Secretary, CBC and Mr. Usie Richards, board member of FIBA and Treasurer of FIBA Americas.

President of ANOCES and the British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee, Ephraim Penn, praised the success of the event and the collaborative regional effort behind it.

“The ANOCES U23 3×3 Tournament represents an important milestone for basketball development in the OECS and demonstrates what can be achieved through regional collaboration,” said Penn. “We are proud not only of the high level of competition displayed by our young athletes, but also of the investment made in training coaches and referees to strengthen the future of the sport across our member territories. The BVIOC was honoured to host this historic inaugural championship.”

ANOCES and the BVIOC also extended sincere appreciation to the Local Organising Committee, chaired by Eustace “Boss” Freeman, for their dedication and hard work in coordinating and delivering a successful regional championship.

The successful hosting of the tournament was made possible by the installation of an official, FIBA-approved, 3×3 basketball court and equipment procured through the efforts of Mr. Richards and Camilo Romero, Manager FIBA Americas 3×3 and donated by FIBA Americas. The court, which meets international competition standards, was donated in support of the continued growth and development of 3×3 basketball in the BVI and the wider OECS region.

The tournament formed part of ANOCES’ broader Sports Competitions Programme focused on youth development, regional integration, and expanding access to internationally recognized sporting formats such as FIBA 3×3 basketball. Live coverage provided by Panam Sports Channel in collaboration with 284 Media, enabled audiences throughout the region and internationally to follow the tournament action and support their teams.
