The Wendoll Williams Cup got off in fine style on Sunday May 22, 2016 with a win for the defending Champions, Sugar Boys F.C. and Wolues F.C.

Both games took place in front of a sizeable crowd on the A.O. Shirley Recreation Grounds in Road Town and after a ceremonial presentation line to greet the players and Referees by D’Avian Williams, Nadege Williams, daughters of the late Wendoll Williams, BVIFA President Andy Bickerton, Asst Secretary- Operations Avanell Morton, and Vice President of the BVIFA Aubrey Liburd.

Sugar Boys overcome spirited Haitian Stars

The Sugar Boys were given an early gift for the opening goal when inexplicably Haitian Stars defender James Felix handled the ball in the penalty box from a corner.

Leonard Davis made no mistake with his spot kick and Derol Redhead soon doubled the advantage to seemingly give the Sugar Boys a comfortable ride into the second round.

However, Andre Thomas pulled one back for the Stars in the 31st minute and then Omar Plitol grabbed an equalizer in the 64th minute to give the defending champions cause for concern.

Not willing to relinquish their title just yet, though, the Boys from VG responded with three quick fire goals from Andres Bailey in the 67th minute, Shawn Jacob in the 71st and Terrance Nanton in the 79th to make the final score 5-2.

Wolues progress to semi finals

Alessandro Pallandino scored a wonder goal in the 9th minute to open the scoring for the Wolues, cushioning the ball with his left foot and then curling the ball past the Ols Madrid goal keeper from 18 yards out with his right foot.

Leo Forte put the Wolues 2-0 up in the 76th minute, before Bernard Grant fired home for Old Madrid after Andre Gaymes had saved the initial effort from Kenmore Peters, who slipped as he took his shot from the spot.

However, there would be no more scoring and the Wolues progressed into the semi finals.

This Sunday VG United face Panthers F.C. at 5.15pm, whilst Islanders F.C. take on One Love at 7.00pm.
