Pythons enjoy victory over the Hawks in 2015 fast Pitch Softball league

The Hawks flew close, but the defending women champions, Pythons were able to slip away with victory in the opening of the 2015 fast Pitch Softball league which started on Friday, June 26 at the softball field in Road Town.

Led by the heavy hitting performance of Darier Malone and Jelisa Potter, the Pythons clipped the Hawks 9-8. Pythons produced 10 hits, committed 6 errors and left 7 runners stranded. Malone finished 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and a run batted in and Jelisa Potter went 4 for 4 with a triple, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.

Hawks finished with 5 hits, 9 errors and left 11 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Pythons’ Thea Cooke and the loser was Perline Leonard.

The Pythons played again on Saturday and defeated West End Warriors 16-6 with a score line of 10 hits, 4 errors and 6 runners on base. The Warriors struggled against Cooke’s pitching and finished with 2 hits, 8 errors and left 8 runners on base.

Tyalia Henley went 2-3 with a triple, 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in for the Pythons who aslo got contribution from Cooke’s bat. She finished 2 for 2 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Cooke picked up her second victory while the losing pitcher was Sarah Potter.

On the men’s side of the league, the rivalry between the Pirates and defending champs Pirates were renewed. However, on Friday, the Pirates tipped Power Outage 9-7 with 10 hits, 5 errors and left 10 runners on base.

Power Outage had 7 runs, 6 hits, 5 errors and left 8 runners on base. The winning pitcher Allen Smith and the loser was Dariel Robinson.

Tramore Frazer of Pirates went 2 for 3 with a run scored and Devon Bedford went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Sheldon John of Power Outage went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Jeremy Penn went 2 for 3 with a double, and 2 runs scored.

Pirates picked up their second win on Sunday by defeating Republica Dominicana 8-6. Pirates had 6 hits, 2 errors and left 4 runners on base. The Dominicana team had 8 hits, 6 errors and left 5 runners on base. The winning pitcher was again Smith and the loser was Yervis Rodriguez.

Kye Rymer of Pirates went 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and Nelson Ramirez went 2 for 3. Eddy Morales of Republica Dominicana went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple, 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in.

The Dominicana squad on Saturday defeated Reds 7-2 with 12 hits, 1 error and 7 runners stranded. Reds had 5 hits, 5 errors and left 7 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Yervis Rodriguez and the loser was Denzil Daniel.

Morales went 3 for 4 with a run scored and 2 runs batted in and Miguel Hernandez went 1 for 2 with a run scored and 2 runs batted in.

Power Outage ended the weekend by defeating Mobsters 8-4. Power Outage had 8 hits, 1 error and left 7 runners on base while Mobsters had 6 hits, 6 errors and left 10 runners on base. The winning pitcher was Joseph Smith and the loser was Jason Fonseca.

Jeremy Penn of Power Outage went 2 for 3 with a triple, a home run, 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in and Richard Jack of Mobsters went 2 for 4 with a run scored and a run batted in.

There are three female and five male teams participating in the league. At the end of the regular season, the first and second place teams in both the male and female divisions will face off in best of five Championship series.
