The BVI Athletics Association has named 21 athletes including five individual medalists among its squad for the 43rd Carifta Games in Fort de France, Martinique, April 19-21. The announcement came during a press briefing at the Central Administration Complex Breeze Way on Monday morning.
Of the 21 participants 16 are in the U18 Division, which is comprised of 11 girls. There will be six debutants and the territory has entered its first 400m male hurdler in its history. Additionally, 16 athletes have been scheduled to double at the event.
The BVI has been participating in the Carifta Games since 1976. Last year’s team won a record eight medals—four silver and four bronze—surpassing the 2012 haul of five in Bermuda.
