The Pan American Games are the largest multidisciplinary international sporting event in which athletes from the Americas participate. They are held every four years, just one year before the Olympic Games.
The 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled to be held October 20 – November 5 in Santiago, Chile. The Parapan American Games will take place November 17 – 26. Santiago was unanimously elected as the host city at the ANOC General Assembly in Prague on November 4, 2017.
With 33 Olympic sports in the final programme of 38, the best athletes across the Americas will compete to become Pan Am Games champions and qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in multiple events. The 19th edition of the Games expects to welcome more than 6000 Pan American athletes from 41 countries. The Para Pan American is expecting 2,200 athletes from 33 countries, in 18 sports.
On October 16, 2021, the seven-coloured bird, Fiu was chosen as the official mascot of Santiago 2023. The slogan of the games is “Follow Your Passion”.
