Glasgow 2026 King’s Baton Relay

The Glasgow 2026 King’s Baton Relay (KBR), a precursor to the 23rd edition of the Commonwealth Games, is underway through the Commonwealth nations and Overseas Territories with the Caribbean region as the first to celebrate their athletes, sports and sustainability.

The BVI Olympic Committee (BVIOC) in its capacity as Commonwealth Sport BVI, will host the King’s Baton Relay May 16 – 21, 2025.  The KBR will be celebrated in the territory through a series of community events and activities on Saturday, May 17, Monday, May 19 and Tuesday, May 20.

About the King’s Baton Relay

The King’s Baton Relay has been re-imagined for a new Games model and a new Monarch with an increased focus on environmental and financial sustainability. With this new model, CSBVI will be engaging in activities, which move away from the historic, expansive events previously hosted, and which reflect the stated values of the KBR. Occurring once every four years the Relay was last in the BVI in May 2022 ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

About the Baton

For the first time ever, each nation and territory will receive their own Baton. The ambition is for each country to decorate their baton to show case their cultural wealth. Each nation’s team will bring the decorated Baton with them to the Glasgow 2026 Opening Ceremony. Ms. Desiree Smith was selected to decorate the Baton for the Virgin Islands.

Sustainability

Commonwealth Sport has partnered with the Royal Commonwealth Society, supporting the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign. This campaign seeks to prevent one million pieces of plastic from entering Commonwealth waters and spark lasting change in how we view plastic pollution ahead of Glasgow 2026. CSBVI has engaged with Green VI to lead in the organization of coastal clean ups across the VI on Saturday, May 17 as follows:

  • Road Town, Tortola – 7:00am – 9:00am – Meet at Festival Grounds
  • Taddy Bay, Virgin Gorda – 7:30am – 9:30am – Meet Top of Windy Hill
