Currently ranked number 8 by World Athletics, Chantel Malone made history when she won the British Virgin Islands first medal in a PanAm Games when she won the gold at Lima 2019 with a distance of 6.68m.
Chantel qualified for Tokyo 2020, her first Olympics, when set a new British Virgin Islands and OECS long jump record this year when she leapt a distance of 7.08m (23’ 2 3/4”)+1.4 wind at the Florida International Pro Addition Track Meet at IMG Academy in Bradenton in March 2021. The distance had then ranked her as world number 2.
Making the most progress of any British Virgin Islands’ athlete at the Commonwealth Games, Chantel starred in her Friendly Games debut when she placed fourth in the Long Jump finals with a mark of 6.41 at Glasgow 2014. She improved on her distance at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games to place fifth with a leap of 6.48m.
She went on to take the silver at the Barranquilla 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games with a distance of 6.52.
In 2017, Chantel marked the first time that an athlete from the territory has finished in the top 8 in a global Outdoor Event (Olympic Games or World Championships) outdoors when she placed seventh overall with a 6.57 leap. The result placed her third among Commonwealth long jumpers behind England’s Lorraine Ugen and Australian, Brooke Stratton.
Whilst at the University of Texas, Chantel was the Conference Champion for both indoor and outdoor track and field events, named All-American at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Championship and was a finalist at the World Junior Championships in two events: the Long Jump and the 400 meters. She won gold at the 2014 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games with a mark of 6.46.
In August 2015, Chantel won the silver medal at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Track and Field Championships in Costa Rica when she cut the sand with a personal best leap of 6.69 meters.
